this story was first posted for predator masters forums in 2018

so todays outing was kind of unexpected.

After a fairly hectic work week I decided it would be great to unwind by having a sit at the deadpit which just recently got a fresh steer.

with the warm weather today longer shots on coyotes sunning themselves in the adjoining hills were expected so I decided it would be a great time to try out the new 6mm creedmoor on some longer shots.

With gear in hand i headed for the hill on which the plan was to lay and glass for coyotes. Before cresting the top of the hill I had already spied 2 dogs milling around near the pit. Contemplating my next move I spied movement to my right and saw a badger running across pasture 200 yards away. Badgers being a rare opportunity in my parts I flopped down and shot him as soon as he stopped.

frantically the singe shot rifle was reloaded and I readied myself for some longer shots on the coyotes fleeing the area.

sure enough as coyotes left I would range and dial the scope just in time for the dog to walk out of sight. I had ranged and dialed on 3 separate coyotes (with no shot) before realizing one 175 yd in front of me which was promptly shot. picture is the first 2 dogs through the scope.

I continued looking in the distance to no avail but then not 2 min later another coyote was at 175 yds. With hackles raised it cautiously approached the downed dog and after lunging in and giving it a few reassuring bites it was confident there was no threat. Then i shot him.

After laying there for a few moments replaying what all just went down I decided now would be a good time to stretch before more started coming back. as soon as I sat up to stretch I was once again greeted by a coyote sitting out in front of me this time at 300 yards.

300 being a chip shot for the 6mm I dialed my scope and made steady and was once again greeted by the WHUOMP of the heavy bthp hitting home.

once again after only 5 min of waiting yet another coyote approached the downed dog and gave it a quick sniff before making to walk off when it was dropped in its tracks.

coyotes 3 and 4 where they lay I considered sitting longer to see what else showed up but with a fairly full coyote freezer and the amount of fur I was seeing fly when those big bullets hit I decided to call it.

I lugged the big target gun back and drove the truck out to pick up dogs for a picture. pictures were taken and equipment was put away when i looked up the hill to see once again I was being watched.

After seeing the damage these big bullets were doing to the fur I was in no hurry to shoot this one but il never NOT shoot at a coyote. so i dug my gear out and readied myself for the shot with no attempts at being stealthy in hopes that he would get the hint. He didnt get the hint. So once again at 330 yards fur went flying and coyote #5 was on the ground. so much for my lazy slow evening haha
